Dominion Energy owns and operates electrical transmission and distribution facilities in Virginia and North Carolina. DEP owns and operates electrical facilities for the transmission and distribution of electricity and energy in North and South Carolina. “I am very proud of the progress we have made in the Smart Path project,” said Eugene L. Nicandri, NYPA Trustee. “We are constantly gaining energy in modernizing this important line, so that more renewable energy can be connected to the grid and we can advance Governor Cuomo`s clean energy and climate management goals.” At the beginning of the year, work began on the first 21-mile section of the MA 2 line. A total of 104 new structures were installed and the transformed section was powered at the beginning of the month. It will provide greater resilience to support the transfer of clean energy from up to New York. “The Wythe County Solar Project is Savion`s second agreement with Dominion Energy,” said Diana Scholtes, Chief Commercial Officer of Savion. “We continue to focus on our solar development in Virginia to help Dominion Energy meet its clean energy goals, which make a significant contribution to the state`s progressive renewable energy market.” The Smart Path project involves the reconstruction of approximately 78 miles of the entire 86-mile transmission axis, which was originally built by the federal government in 1942 and acquired in 1950 by the Power Authority. The new lines, which run north-south through St. Lawrence and Lewis counties in the North Country, will incorporate economic, clean and renewable energy into the national electricity system, including the low-cost hydroelectric power project of NYPA St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as electricity generated from newly constructed renewable energy sources.
Savion announced that Dominion Energy Virginia had signed a PPP to obtain 75 MW of renewable solar electricity with the Wythe County Solar Project in Wythe County, southwestern Virginia. The elevation contract is subject to approval by the Virginia State Corporation Commission in a recent bid by Dominion Energy.
